Gloucester City are pleased this evening to announce the signing of striker Luke Hopper from Swindon Supermarine.\r\n\r\nHopper, 26, was Marine’s top goalscorer last season and has already netted 15 times in 20 games in this season’s campaign.\r\n\r\nA product of the Swindon Town youth academy, Hopper was immediately snapped up by Adie Mings at Chippenham Town following his release by the Robins.\r\n\r\nAt six foot tall, Hopper starred for the Robins in their magnificent FA Youth Cup run of 2006/07.\r\n\r\nSpeaking about his new acquisition, Tim Harris said “We have watched Luke several times over the past six weeks and we feel he offers us something different to what we have.\r\n\r\n“He was top scorer for Supermarine last season and has a good goal ratio this year. You never lose the ability to put the ball in the net and has a great passion for the game.\r\n\r\n“Luke is a proven goalscorer and we are delighted to give him the opportunity at this level.”\r\n\r\nHopper will be available for the Boxing Day fixture, which sees the Tigers take on Worcester City in the Severn Derby for the 100th time.\r\n\r\nMeanwhile we can confirm that striker Jonté Smith has left the club following the expiration of his short term three month contract.\r\n\r\nHarris said “First and foremost we would like to thank Jonté for all his efforts during his time with the club.\r\n\r\n“Jonté is an extremely talented player and there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that he has the ability to play higher up the leagues.\r\n\r\n“I would also like to praise Jonté on the professionalism he has shown during his time with Gloucester City and wish him all the best for the future.”
