The next generation of local football stars will get the chance to show off their skills at Believe in Gloucester’s BiG Sporting Weekend.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nGloucester City AFC will be joining partners Prospect Training and Education Through Sport for a mini football festival at the event which will take place in Gloucester Docks on August 11 and 12.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nBudding footballers will be put through their paces in a series of fun sessions, including mini matches, beat the keeper competitions and speed and agility training.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThe next Tom Webb, Neil Mustoe or Adam Mann could be unearthed by Gloucester City’s coaches when they pay a visit, along with members of the first team.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nTigers boss Dave Mehew said the club was delighted to take part in the event.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nHe said: “Gloucester is a city with a proud sporting tradition and it is great to be part of something like the BiG Sporting Weekend. We are lucky to have lots of local talent in the First Team including the likes of Tom, Neil and Adam who have made almost 1,000 appearances between them.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n”It is important to keep our connection to Gloucester even though we are currently playing our First Team games outside of the City. There is real potential for gloucester to produce great footballers and events like this give kids an opportunity get involved and who knows some of them could end up playing for Gloucester City in years to come.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThe BiG Sporting Weekend is FREE to attend, and will showcase some of the great sport and outdoor activities which Gloucester has to offer, and to encourage people of all ages to have fun trying out a new activity, the football stand will be open from 11am until 4pm each day.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nPlayers from the First Team will be there from midday onwards on both days.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThe ‘Believe in Gloucester’ campaign was launched by Marketing Gloucester in February. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of Gloucester’s strengths and to create a sense of belief in the city by residents. Details of forthcoming BiG events can be found at\r\n\r\n
