Generous fans at Gloucester’s weekend game against Chester helped raise more than £300 for a local cancer charity.\n\nCity’s marketing and commercial consultant Colin Peake organised the collection and is cultivating his facial hair to support Movember.\n\n\nHe said: \n
May I personally extend my thanks to everyone who donated to my “Movember” appeal at the Gloucester City v Chester FC match this Sunday.(18th November)\n\nI decided that rather than the national appeal, I would choose to help locally something which is dear to my heart. The Cheltenham Prostrate Cancer Centre (Brachytherapy Unit) I decided they would be the beneficiary of my efforts in memory of a recent friend Dave Courtney who fought long and hard over ten years with the illness but still managed to see his dream of such a unit for Gloucestershire save the lives of countless men. Up until his death a few weeks ago it was around 200 lives saved and much consolation to the families of those diagnosed.\n\nI am pleased to let all who so kindly contributed that the collection at the match amounted to a very generous £328.98. I am very appreciative of both Gloucester City and Chester FC fans at the game. If you did not know me before you certainly do now.\n\nAs a Board member of the Football Conference my fellow directors and I, are always amazed at the generosity and kindness shown by supporters of our member clubs, when asked to put their hand in their pocket or purse, particularly in recent financial times. Our game has much to admire off the field as well as on it. Long may that continue.\n\nThank you very much.
