Two injury time penalties capped off a disappointing afternoon for out-of-sorts Gloucester City.
Darren Edwards goal, with the last kick of the game was little consolation as the Tigers slipped to their second defeat in a row.
The action came after almost 90 minutes had been played. Histon came away with the points in a dire affair which looked to heading to a goalless conclusion until three goals in the last four minutes salvaged some credibility for either side.
With their star striker sold the previous day Histon fielded a mixed side but soon made their mark.
Histon’s young side had arguably their best chance of the half in the opening minute when Shepherd found himself in space but his flicked shot went wide.
From then on Gloucester had the lion’s share of possession but Histon carved out the better chances, forcing full stretch saves from City stopper Conor Thompson to keep the scores level.
Ben Hunt picked up a groin injury inside the first half hour, forcing an early change to the Tigers line up.
Sub Steve Davies created City’s best opening on 44 mins, playing in Will Morford after a surging run but the striker had no room to shoot.
The second half started just as poorly as the first ended, Histon hit the post on 58 when flashing the ball across the goal mouth. City had their best chance on 73 but Jack Harris headed over from four yards out.
Histon finally made the game interesting when a counter attack on 89 led to a penalty after Matt Coupe handballed in the box. Eades converted and then the lead was doubled a minute later when Jack Harris fouled in the area and Sheppard scored. Edwards scored a consolation header with the last action of a poor game.
City go into Monday’s game against Solihull with Hunt joining Adam Mann, keeper Mike Green and Tom Hamblin on the injury list.
