Gloucester City are saddened to learn of the passing of former Tigers midfielder Mike Burford, at the age of 56.

A former pupil of St Peter’s School in Gloucester, Mike joined Hereford United aged 15 and had a four year spell at Edgar Street as a youth and reserve team player.

After leaving Hereford he played a handful of games for Cheltenham Town Reserves during season 1978-79 then joined Gloucester City after a spell in local football.

Mike spent six seasons with Gloucester City before returning to Cheltenham in 1984.

Mike returned to Gloucester City in the summer of 1985 and later played for Shortwood United and Brockworth while working for the family scrap metal firm in Witcombe.

Mike is survived by his wife Deb and children Zoe, Zara and Shane.

Our thoughts are with Mike’s family and friends at this time.
