Tigers skipper Matt Coupe says its an honour to lead his Gloucester City team into the First Round of the FA Cup for the first time in 23 years.\r\n\r\nMindful of previous aborted cup runs, Matt said overcoming the challenge of Eastleigh and Chippenham Town shows just how far the club has come.\r\n\r\nHe said: “There has been a massive team effort to improve in the short time I’ve been here,\r\n\r\n“We didn’t play well against Weston the first year I was here and then lost out late on to Chelmsford last year and this year we did it and its great to be part of it.\r\n\r\n“From us to the backroom staff, to the fans, it’s a great achievement and I know everyone is looking forward to the next round.\r\n\r\n“We weren’t supposed to win against Eastleigh but then Yate weren’t meant to win against Newport, if you are in the right place at the right time and you take your chance, that’s the magic of the cup.\r\n\r\n“All we have to do against Leyton Orient is enjoy the day and give a good account of ourselves.”\r\n\r\nAs one of the few players with a physical day job, Matt, one of the more senior figures in the dressing room, credits his work as a roofer with keeping his football career going.\r\n\r\nHe said: “If I get knocks on the pitch and have to be up and at work the next day I tend to get over them quicker.\r\n\r\n“At the moment I feel as good as I ever have but I do know it will stop one day. It’s important as I get older to keep working hard. I did a lot of work over the summer on my fitness, it’s important to keep your body ticking over.”\r\n\r\nWith City facing the prospect of a few Sunday fixtures due to groundshare arrangements with Cheltenham Town, Matt is hoping to see a few former teammates in the crowd showing support, although his Dad, who is in Spain will have to settle for the live TV stream being broadcast outside the UK.\r\n\r\nHe said: “I expect there will be a few players and managers having a look at us, what with it being on a Sunday. I quite like the Sunday games, they have a different feel to Saturdays.\r\n\r\n“It will be good to see a big crowd, the fans are an important part of this club and I hope they enjoy the day as much as us.”
