Gloucester City Football Club are thrilled to welcome back defender Mark Preece from Conference North rivals Oxford City.\r\n\r\nThe 27-year-old played for the club during manager Tim Harris’ first spell in 2006 and has since gone on to play for numerous clubs in the Conference Premier including Mansfield Town and Forest Green Rovers.\r\n\r\nPreece started his career at Bristol Rovers, before a short-lived loan spell with the Tigers, playing 15 times and scoring once.\r\n\r\nTigers boss Harris is delighted that the experienced defender has joined the club at such a crucial stage before the beginning of the 2014/15 season.\r\n\r\n“Mark is an good solid defender and to be able to attract a player of his experience is great news for all at Gloucester City,” Harris said.\r\n\r\n“He will be well known to City fans after playing for me in my first spell as manager when he was only a youngster, since then he has progressed and is a proven defender at this level.\r\n\r\n“The young players I have brought in over the summer have totally exceeded my expectations during pre-season and I am delighted with their progress so far, but we open the season with some very tough games.\r\n\r\n“Bradford Park Avenue, Tamworth and North Ferriby United will all be up there in the mix this season and with Mark we have a player who has the experience to compliment the youngsters.\r\n\r\n“With Lewis Hogg and Jack Harris out of the opening few games, it meant we had very little cover if any other players got injured; having Mark in puts those worries to rest.\r\n\r\nHarris has also had discussions with a couple of the squad concerning loan spells to give them match practice over the opening weeks of the season.
