Ahead of Sunday’s Emirates FA Cup fixture with Hemel Hempstead, Gloucester City centre back Jack Deaman says that the side have to bounce back from Saturday’s loss to Harrogate Town.\r\n\r\nThe Tigers have started their Vanarama National League North season well, gaining 21 points from their opening 12 games and currently sit 7th in the table, and Deaman wants to see the same level of performances in the cup and league.\r\n\r\n”Obviously we’ve started the season really well. We were disappointed with our performance on Saturday and we’ve got to bounce back from that.\r\n\r\n”The FA Cup is important for everyone – the club, the players and the fans – so we want to have a good run in the competition and see where it can take us.”\r\n\r\nDespite two of the Tigers three defeats this season coming on artificial pitches (the other being away at Tamworth), Deaman insists that the pitch wasn’t to blame for the loss.\r\n\r\n”We train on the same sort of pitch but obviously playing an actual game is different to training. It was a bit slippy on Saturday but at the end of the day we can’t really make excuses for our performance because they outworked us, especially in the first half, and that was the difference.\r\n\r\n”You can’t put any blame on the pitch really, we just have to play better as a team and we didn’t do that on Saturday.”\r\n\r\nWith over a quarter of his first season with the squad already played, Deaman reflects on his time with the Tigers so far.\r\n\r\n”As soon as I came in I already knew a couple of the players from Cheltenham Town, but even the lads that have come in before and after me you can tell that they’ve settled in straight away into what is a very tight-knit group.\r\n\r\n”I think that is a massive reason why we’ve started so well. We have got a great togetherness and we’re doing it for each other rather than just individuals doing it for themselves.”\r\n\r\nDespite the good start though and some talk of play-offs floating around, Deaman insists that the squad will just be taking each game as it comes.\r\n\r\n”We’ve played over a quarter of a season now but we’ve just got to take it game by game and we’ve got to look to win every game.\r\n\r\n”If you’re going to talk about winning every game then you’re going to win the league aren’t you?! Obviously people are going to get excited with the way we’ve started the season but for us we take it match by match and see where that takes us at the end of the season.\r\n\r\nDeaman has also taken up the role as Commercial Sales Executive for Gloucester City AFC and if you would like to make a booking for our matchday hospitality on Sunday, contact Jack on 07766 159298 or email jack.deaman@gloucestercityafc.com.
