Robbie Cundy has revealed in an exclusive interview with gloucestercityafc.com that Gloucester City was the only club he wanted to sign for ahead of the 2017/18 season.
Cundy, 20, rejoined the Tigers last week after being on trial with Sutton United and Kidderminster during pre-season.
Speaking to the club website this morning, the former Oxford United man told of his delight to be back with the club he first joined on loan two years ago.
“It feels great to be back here” said Cundy. “When I joined the club on loan a couple of seasons ago we did really well.
“Obviously a few of the boys are still here from my first spell and it helps that I know the club and the people, not much has changed.”
Cundy sat out the opening day defeat to Chelmsford City, but was a second half substitute against Truro City in midweek where Tim Harris praised his performance.
“I thought Robbie did really well on Monday when he came on” Harris said. “He showed the touch of quality we all know he has.
“He knew he’d have to be patient when he came back but he hasn’t moaned he’s just got on with it and he’s definitely in contention to start on Saturday.”
The 6-foot-4 centre-half admits he is an ambitious footballer and that the Tigers squad at the moment is one of the most ambitious and quality squads he’s been a part of.
With the quality in the squad came the knowledge that he wouldn’t be starting straight away, but revealed that he was the one who wanted Tim Harris to sign him anyway.
“My goal is to play as much football as possible, just like any footballer” he said. “This group of lads is very ambitious.
“The way Gloucester are pushing themselves towards success and showing their ambition is more than a lot of groups I’ve been with in my career.
“After I didn’t have a club at the end of pre-season I actually rang Tim because I wanted him to sign me and I wanted to play for Gloucester City.
“I told him I wanted to sign for the club and luckily he wanted me too so we got it all done quickly and I can’t wait to show everyone what I can do once more.”
