A record number of teams have entered this year’s Gloucester City Football Club Golf Day, which takes place this Friday at Brickhampton Court Golf Complex.\r\n\r\nTo add to the day’s festivities, the club will be holding an auction involving memorabilia from Real Madrid star Gareth Bale, Manchester United ace Juan Mata and England’s 1966 World Cup hero Sir Geoff Hurst.\r\n\r\nBidders will also have the option of bidding on a Ricoh desktop printer, donated by Abbey Business Equipment.\r\n\r\nOrganiser Colin Peake is happy that the day is already a  success for the club, but believes a competitive auction will made the day even brighter for the Tigers.\r\n\r\n“Despite the recent weather we are hopeful the sun will shine on the club for one day,” Peake said.\r\n\r\n”It will be a fitting stamp on the recent change in fortunes on the pitch.\r\n\r\n”Certainly the off field activities are just as important to a certain degree and a golf competition does help networking with local businesses and sponsors, even those who might watch other sports.”\r\n\r\nPeake added, “The club has received several donations towards raising funds and are grateful to Sainsburys in Barnwood for raffle prizes and we have four selected items for an auction.\r\n\r\n”One comes from former Gloucester Citizen staff sports reporter Nigel Dean, who is now a director for Sky Sports covering Premier League football, who has donated a signed framed picture of Gareth Bale to celebrate his ‘ Player of the Year’ award from the Football Writers Association prior to his move to Real Madrid.\r\n\r\n”In addition there is a Ricoh desktop printer from Abbey Business Equipment, a Juan Mata signed Champions League boot from adidas and also a signed football from Sir Geoff Hurst donated by CGT Lettings.”\r\n\r\nTeam prizes on offer on the actual course will include a clay shooting package at Ian Coley’s famous shoot at Andoversford and courtesy of At The Races, tickets to Worcester Races for an evening meeting in May.\r\n\r\nMore details are available on the club website www.gloucestercityafc.com or if you wish to make a bid for any of the four auction items you can call Colin Peake on 07763 831070 before 12 noon on Friday.
