Gloucester City Football Club is happy to announce that goalkeeper Mike Green has agreed to stay on for next season, with Harvey Rivers joining the club in the challenge to be City’s No.1.\r\n\r\nThe 19-year-old was released by Cheltenham Town in the summer, and was highly sought after with City manager Tim Harris suitably impressed during Rivers’ loan spell at Bishops Cleeve.\r\n\r\nGreen, formerly of Bristol Rovers, has been with the Tigers on and off since 2009, playing 145 times for the club and is thrilled to sign on for the 2014/2015 campaign.\r\n\r\n“I’m delighted to have signed again, the club is blossoming year on year, both on and off the pitch, and it’s something I want to be a part of,” explained Green.\r\n\r\n“Apart from the FA Cup run, last season was disappointing for all the lads simply because we didn’t win enough games at home.”\r\n\r\n“This year it’s important we get off to a good start to lay a platform for us to build on throughout the season.\r\n\r\n“I’m really pleased that most of the lads have stayed, with the addition of a few quality players I truly believe we can push forward.\r\n\r\n“I’m looking forward to working with Harvey, I’ve heard good things about him and competition is always healthy to have.”\r\n\r\nRivers is looking forward to the prospect of putting on a Tigers shirt and challenging Green for the No.1 spot whilst pushing the club up the Conference North table.\r\n\r\n“I’m very much looking forward to next season, I’m excited for a new type of challenge, and to challenge myself at a very good level,” Rivers said.\r\n\r\n“Gloucester is a club that is going places, and I think Tim is building a squad of real quality.”\r\n\r\n“I have spoke a lot to Joe Hanks and Billy Jones who both praised the club, both saying it’s a great club to be at, so signing was a no brainer.\r\n\r\n“Being able to play under Tim, as an ex-goalkeeper, has played a big part in wanting to come as I feel he can pass on his knowledge to help me learn and improve on my game, which is important at my age.\r\n\r\n“My aim is to challenge for the number one spot right from the off, I think Mike Green and myself will both enjoy pushing each other to become better and better throughout the season and claim the jersey, I can’t wait to get started.”
