Hampton & Richmond 1-1 Gloucester City

A resolute Gloucester City produced a gritty performance to earn a share of the points against promotion hopefuls Hampton & Richmond at the Beveree.

Joe Parker’s strike just before half-time briefly put City in-front, until Max Kretzschmar levelled the score moments later.

Keeper Andrew Hannah pulled off some fantastic saves as City frustrated the hosts, who failed to find a winner, despite dominating large parts of the game.

The home side started the brighter, but despite having the majority of the ball, clear-cut chances were few and far between.

The first real chance came the way of the hosts on the half-hour mark, Hudson-Odoi’s cross caused panic in the City box and resulted in Edge heading off the line and over for a corner.

Moments later, Shaun Jeffers should have done better, when his lobbed effort beat the goal, as well as the keeper, Hannah.

But it was the Tigers who took the lead, despite hardly threatening the Beavers goal in the opening period. Joe Parker continued his red-hot form when he broke through the Hampton defensive line and struck a superb effort into the bottom left corner.

However, the lead only lasted a matter of minutes, top scorer Kretzschmar pounced on a misplaced ball to fire home past a helpless Hannah in the City goal.

After the break, Hampton continued to dominate the game but was struggling to break through a stubborn Tigers side.

Elliot Charles and Shandon Baptiste both wasted good opportunities as the hosts appeared to become increasingly frustrated.

Ed Williams forced a fine save from Dieng late on, as City threatened to steal all three points.

In the dying minutes, Shaun Jeffers latched onto a brilliant cross from Ben Wynter, but the striker could not find the target.

Despite the late pressure, Marc Richards side managed to hold on for a well-earned three points.
