Gloucester City have completed the signing of midfielder David Bird until the end of the season.

\r\nWith City’s own appearance record holder Tom Webb suspended for the next three games after his red card against Droylsden manager Dave Mehew has brought in the former Cheltenham favourite who holds the record for the most league appearances for the Rubies.\r\n\r\nLike Webb, Bird has been a one-club player – signing for Cheltenham as a teenager and playing for the team for more than ten years, making a total of 289 appearances.\r\n\r\nThe 27-year-old left Cheltenham by mutual consent earlier this season and according to Mehew was an ideal signing to bolster the injury and suspension depleted Tigers squad.\r\n\r\nHe said: “It’s great to be able to sign a player with as much experience as Dave Bird. Obviously with Tom Webb out for the next three games it’s ideal timing for us. He brings with him the experience of playing almost 300 league appearances and can play in midfield or defence.\r\n\r\n”Dave’s a local lad and he’s keen to get some games under his belt, hopefully he’ll slot straight in against Blyth on Saturday.”\r\n\r\nThe Tigers face their biggest trip of the season on Saturday as they travel to Blyth Spartans. With Darren Edwards and Tom Webb both suspended and Steve Davies injured, Mehew will welcome back Scott Wilson from his three match ban.
