PRESS RELEASE: STRIKER LEAVES CITY
Gloucester City Football Club and Michael Whittington have terminated the players contract by mutual consent. Michael is expected to sign for a Conference South club today. Manager Tim Harris says: "I sincerely wish him well and hopefully this fresh challenge will see him capture his desire and form. Michael has struggled this season, he really needs to get to grips with part-time football and his day job, this is one area he has not adjusted to and we needed to go our separate ways. I am currently talking to several highly regarded players and am hopeful of some new faces in the squad for the festive games".

TITLE: CITY CHAIRMAN CHRIS HILL STEPS DOWN
Gloucester City Chairman Chris Hill has stepped down from his position following discussions with his fellow Executive Committee members and club owner Eammon McGurk.
Explaining his decision, Mr Hill explains “I am currently very busy with my business, which is entailing a lot of travel, and time is of a premium. This, and the need to provide significant extra focus on the work needed for a successful return to a new stadium in the City mean that I don’t believe I can give the time that this club needs and deserves. It is therefore with regret that I have had to inform the club of my decision”.
Mr Hill Continues “its been a roller-coaster ride as Chairman, but one that I have enjoyed immensely. Obviously the floods of July have been a real low point, but I believe we have moved forward significantly in the way we run the club, and I hope that will reap benefits as the club moves forward. I would like to thank all of those who have contributed to the running of this club, but especially to the Supporters Trust, who have been magnificent in their financial and physical help for Gloucester City AFC.
Dave Phillips has agreed to take over as acting Chairman until the Executive Committee formally appoint a replacement. Mr Phillips said “I am proud to take on this job for the short term, and hope to continue work to draw the elements of the club together and towards a successful return to the City".

ASHLEY
THOMAS SIGNS FOR CITY
Gloucester City AFC have signed Ashley Thomas from Shortwood United. The 24 year-old central defender has also played for Slimbridge, and comes highly rated. At 6’ 3” he will provide a physical presence in the centre of the City defence. Manager Tim Harris says "Ashley is a big and strong centre back who not only did well against us recently but had 45 mins in pre season for us when we played Salisbury. At the time we had plenty of competition for places and I told Ashley we would look to give him the opportunity and this is what has happened and I am delighted to welcome to the club"
Thomas will not, however, be able to assist City in their FA Trophy replay tomorrow night against Stourbridge at the New Lawn. With Marc Richards and Lyndon Tomkins out injured, and Jamie Price suspended The Tigers are short on defenders for that game, but Thomas was not registered before the original tie, so is ineligible, and will have to wait until Saturday to get involved.
But helping out City tomorrow night will be former favourite Jason Welsh, who is still registered with City, and has agreed to come back for one match following his recent release. Manager Tim Harris said “frankly it is a cheek to go back to Jason and ask him to help out, but it says a lot about the sort of man he is that he agreed. It also says a lot about the club and that he is prepared to come back and help us out. I believe that he has been working hard to get himself fit since we released him, and he will do us a good job tomorrow”. But Harris is keen to stress that budget constraints will not allow for him to re-sign Welsh long-term “we have had to make some hard choices in recent weeks, but we have to do what is right for the long term future of the club” says Harris.

REGISTER OF SUPPORTERS
Gloucester City is starting to compile a register of supporters. Commercial Manager Keith Butler already has a large register of Gloucestershire businesses, many of who receive regular updates on what is happening at the Club.
He now wants to extend it to a register of supporters who simply register the fact that they are Tigers fans.
"I simply want to get names, addresses and an email contact either at home or work, so I can keep in regular touch, send out newsletters and generally offer a better service. For example how many didn't know the kick off time in the Shortwood game - but we could have kept everybody in touch and sent an email reminder on the Friday beforehand."
"In fact the FA Cup is the prime example of why it is worth registering. I know we are out of the Cup this year but in future years we may well draw a big Club at home and everybody will want to jump on the bandwagon. There is nothing more galling than supporting a Club for years and then not being able to easilly get a ticket for that one big game. How will we know the four or five hundred who supported us during the hard times of 2007 so that we can look after them and their families first when it comes to distributing a limited number of tickets. If we have a register we can look back and see who was around in 2007/8 season."
"Quite frankly I don't care if a person is a once a year follower - the important thing is that they are interested enough to SAY they support the Tigers when it isn't fashionable to do so, claim it in the pub, use a Club pen at school, wear the shirt in the evening, take an interest in the results. We are building for the future but in any building it is the foundation that is the most important part"
"We aren't going to sell on the information - it is for our use only."

contact@gloucestercityafc.comPRESS RELEASE
Gloucester City manager Tim Harris has started to adjust his squad in light of the recent run of disappointing results, and this has resulted in two players being released, and another placed on the transfer list.
“Scott Griffin is off around the world for 8 months in the next couple of months, so we have agreed to part company slightly earlier than expected to freshen the squad. Scott understands the situation and we wish him well with his trip and for the future” says Harris.
Jason Welsh is also leaving with immediate effect. Tim Harris says “I am really disappointed as I know that City have not seen the best of Jason. He has been troubled by one injury after another, and sometimes you have to make the tough decisions because time is never on your side in football. If he could get himself fit then he would be an excellent player at this level, and like Scott we wish him well for the future”
Harris has also placed long-serving midfielder Tom Webb on the transfer list, although he is keen to state that the door is not closed on him remaining at the club. “Tom is a good lad who been at the club for many years, rising through the youth ranks. His energy levels are without doubt his major asset, but I feel that now, after some 250 games, it might be the right time for him to seek a new challenge. We will see what develops from that, and then assess the situation.”
Harris went on “I have to respond to what has been a very disappointing period results wise. I am currently working hard strengthen the squad and first and foremost I must make space to achieve this. I still firmly believe this squad has talent but I need to look to install a winning mentality, and am talking to several players at this moment in time.
