CITY PAIR MOVE ON

Marcus Palmer and Matt Walsh have decided to move on to pastures new - both players had previously played at the club, and rejoined in the summer.   Manager Dave Mehew said "I have spoken to both players and have wished them well for the future.  We have always know that Marcus is hungry for a return to the full time game, and with Matt the travelling was always an issue, so I fully understand their positions. We remain on very good terms, and if things don't work out for them then we will be more than happy to speak to them in the future.

CITY SIGN PALMER

Gloucester City have signed Marcus Palmer following his release by Hereford United at the end of last season. Palmer, who had a highly successful spell with the club on loan last season (including a hat trick on his debut) has agreed to spend the first month of the season with City as he continues to seek a place in full-time football.  He and the club will then sit down to review the situation and decide on the future. The club fully understand his desire to remain in the full time game, whilst Marcus is delighted to be playing for his home-town club in the interim.

MANAGEMENT RESTRUCTURE AT CITY

Gloucester City have announced a restructuring of their football management team as they prepare for the coming campaign in the British Gas Business Premier Division.

Manager Tim Harris is to step into the role of General Manager due to business commitments, with David Mehew becoming first team Manager, assisted by Adie Harris. Explaining the move Harris commented "there was no need for wholesale changes, but it is about ensuring that we can move this club forward. Its about continuity and development of an already strong management team. It also offers flexibility - for instance Dave has a pre-existing period away during the pre-season, and we have already agreed that I will simply step back into the front line for that period to help maintain progress towards the season proper."

Chairman Dave Phillips said ' It is just as important to have a solid club structure as to have a successful team, and it is a positive development that should help us progress. I believe we need to be fighting fit for our eventual return to the City, when that day comes. This change helps Tim, and we are delighted that he remains committed to the club. This also presents an excellent opportunity for David and Adie. I'm sure that everyone at City wishes them all well in this challenge.

Neil Mustoe - Supporters Trust Player of the Year

Press Release: Further good news as Sawyer stays on!

Gloucester City Football Club are delighted to announce that goalkeeper Kevin Sawyer has committed to the club for the 2008-2009 season. After a hugely impressive first season with The Tigers, Tim Harris is delighted to have signed up his big goalkeeper; “Kev has been a terrific signing for us, and to have secured his services for another season, together with club captain Neil Mustoe and star striker Jack Pitcher, is a huge boost for the management and fans alike”.

Press Release: Jack Pitcher signs on for another year

Gloucester City are delighted to announce that they have completed a deal with striker Jack Pitcher that will see him stay with "The Tigers" for another season. "Pitch" has scored 18 goals so far this season, and manager Tim Harris is delighted that he has got his man.

Trio sign on for another year

Gloucester City Football Club is delighted to announce that three more players have committed themselves to the club for the 2008-2009 season.

Wide man Lee Smith came through the City Youth system, and has played over 250 games for the club, scoring 36 goals in two spells.

Midfielder Tom Webb is another 24 year-old, and also came through the all-important Youth Team. He is a one-club player, and has notched up in excess of 300 appearances for The Tigers, scoring 17 goals in the process.

Completing a trio of 24 year-olds is Ashley Thomas, who joined City this year from Shortwood United, and has been an instant success at this level despite having to step up two leagues. Ashley has been a rock at the centre of defence.

City manager Tim Harris said; “coming on top of the signings of Jack Pitcher, Neil Mustoe and Kevin Sawyer, this is a huge boost for the club. These six players have all played a massive part in the success we have enjoyed this season, and I think this shows the intent we have as a club to build on that success for next season. Ashley has made the transition to football at this level very well, whilst Tom and Lee have, despite their young age, a wealth of experience, having both got their first team chances at just 17 years of age.”

Harris continued “we are continuing to talk to players about next season, but I am delighted to have these six secured at this early stage”.

ROSE SIGNS FOR ANOTHER SEASON

Gloucester City are pleased to announce that Matt Rose has re-signed for the coming season.

The combative 32 year-old midfielder rejoined last summer for a second spell at the club, and made 44 appearances, scoring three goals last season. He

has previous experience with Cheltenham Town, Cirencester Town, Newport County and Weston-super-Mare.

Commenting on the signing, Tim Harris said "Matt Rose is another important part of the squad his experience is vital as proved last season so we are all delighted he has agreed to extend his contract. "

HARRIS STAYS WITH TIGERS

Gloucester City Football Club are delighted to announce after recent speculation that Tim Harris is remaining with the club.  Club Chairman Dave Phillips said "its been a busy weekend of meetings discussing various issues with Tim, but I am happy to report that he remains committed to the future of the club.  We are now looking at the whole structure of the club in order to take some of the pressure off Tim and allow him to combine football with his business interests.  Those changes will take time to work through, and its vital that we get them right in order to build on our forward momentum both on and off the pitch. "

Dave Phillips continued "crucial to that future is a new ground for the club in the City, and whilst I appreciate that fans are desperate for news I ask  them to be patient for a little longer. Things are moving forward and we are hopeful that a positive announcement will be forthcoming before the start of the new season".

Gloucestershire Community Foundation help City

PRESS RELEASE

Gloucestershire Community Foundation has been able to help Gloucester City AFC towards recovering from the set-back the Club suffered in last July's floods, with a timely boost to its running costs with a grant of over £5000.

Since the floods, the 125 year old Club have been playing their home games in Nailsworth at the home of Forest Green Rovers, but recently signed a two-year agreement to ground-share at Cirencester Town's Corinium Stadium from next season, whilst simultaneously working hard for a move back to within the City Boundary.

In addition, the Club has received a grant of £1500 from the Severn Trent Flood Fund also administered by the Gloucestershire Community Foundation. This grant will help to replace kit lost during the floods.

Sue Wright, Grants Development Manager for the Foundation said that it is hoped these two grants will enable the Club to move on from its problems and regain their position as an excellent provider of sporting opportunities, as well as providing the public with hours of entertainment.

On behalf of the Club and its Supporters, Chairman Dave Phillips said that a lot of hard work and effort is on-going within the Club, to take the opportunity that the devastating flood disaster has unfortunately provided, to eventually be able to turn it into a success story of the future. He said ' Our efforts now, will bear fruit one day, and all those hardy souls presently involved, will know that future generations will have a top class Club that the City and its football lovers will be very proud of. The help being afforded us now, from the likes of the Gloucestershire Community Foundation and Severn Trent, as well as of great practical help, is a great boost to morale in a most difficult situation for us.'

Gloucester Community Foundations Dr. Chris Wakeman(GCF Trustee) and Simon Preston(GCF Chairman) make the presentation to City Chairman Dave Phillips.  For details of the grant, see below.

CITY SIGN PALMER

Gloucester City manager Tim Harris has moved into the transfer market to take Hereford United striker, Marcus Palmer on a months loan.  Striker Palmer is 20 years old, and singed for the League Two high-flyers as an 18-year-old in September 2006 from Cheltenham Town

The Gloucester-born youngster has recently been awarded a new deal at Hereford, and Tigers Manager Tim Harris is delighted to get his man – “he is lightening-fast, so will give us more options over the coming month as we look to push back into the play-off positions. He has been on the fringes of the first team this year, being named as a substitute on several occasions, and getting onto the field of play on a couple of occasions.

The signing is especially welcome for tomorrow’s game at Rugby, as Will Morford, Alex Allard and Jody Bevan will not be available. Marc Richards will have to start on the bench, so will not be available for the whole match. Dan Wixey of the Youth Team will also feature in the squad, whilst Matt Sysum will start his first game for the Tigers having been on the bench for some time.

LYNDON TOMKINS LEAVES FOR BISHOPS CLEEVE:

Following his return from injury Lyndon Tomkins has left the club to join Bishops Cleeve. All at City with Lyndon every success, and thank him for his efforts for City over the course of the last few years, and 91 games.

PRESS RELEASE:  STRIKER LEAVES CITY

Gloucester City Football Club and Michael Whittington have terminated the players contract by mutual consent. Michael is expected to sign for a Conference South club today.  Manager Tim Harris says: "I sincerely wish him well and hopefully this fresh challenge will see him capture his desire and form. Michael has struggled this season, he really needs to get to grips with part-time football and his day job, this is one area he has not adjusted to and we needed to go our separate ways. I am currently talking to several highly regarded players and am hopeful of some new faces in the squad for the festive games".

Fun Run Success

The Santa Fun Run today was a great success, with over 100 Santa's running through the streets of Gloucester to raise money for Leukaemia Care, Severn Sound Money Mountain and the club. Well done to all those who took part.  For pictures and further details keep checking back to this site.

PRESS RELEASE

From: Gloucester City Football Club

Date: 11 November 2007

TITLE: CITY CHAIRMAN CHRIS HILL STEPS DOWN

Gloucester City Chairman Chris Hill has stepped down from his position following discussions with his fellow Executive Committee members and club owner Eammon McGurk.

Explaining his decision, Mr Hill explains “I am currently very busy with my business, which is entailing a lot of travel, and time is of a premium. This, and the need to provide significant extra focus on the work needed for a successful return to a new stadium in the City mean that I don’t believe I can give the time that this club needs and deserves. It is therefore with regret that I have had to inform the club of my decision”.

Mr Hill Continues “its been a roller-coaster ride as Chairman, but one that I have enjoyed immensely. Obviously the floods of July have been a real low point, but I believe we have moved forward significantly in the way we run the club, and I hope that will reap benefits as the club moves forward. I would like to thank all of those who have contributed to the running of this club, but especially to the Supporters Trust, who have been magnificent in their financial and physical help for Gloucester City AFC.

Dave Phillips has agreed to take over as acting Chairman until the Executive Committee formally appoint a replacement. Mr Phillips said “I am proud to take on this job for the short term, and hope to continue work to draw the elements of the club together and towards a successful return to the City".

PRESS RELEASE

Date: 31 October 2007

TITLE: PRICE IS RIGHT FOR WORCESTER

Gloucester City AFC have announced that fullback Jamie Price is leaving to sign for Blue Square North club Worcester City. Manager Tim Harris said that City had been glad to provide a platform for Price to perform and to show his talents; "Jamie is a player of great technical ability and playing in a higher league will allow him to fully show that, so we are not going to stand in the way of him moving up to a higher league. I am also pleased to have a direct replacement available in the fit-again Michael Noakes , so we will be able to cover the loss of Jamie. All at the club wish him every success for the future"

PRESS RELEASE

ASHLEY THOMAS SIGNS FOR CITY

Gloucester City AFC  have signed Ashley Thomas from Shortwood United. The 24 year-old central defender has also played for Slimbridge, and comes highly rated.  At 6’ 3” he will provide a physical presence in the centre of the City defence.  Manager Tim Harris says "Ashley is a big and strong centre back who not only did well against us recently but had 45 mins in pre season for us when we played Salisbury. At the time we had plenty of competition for places and I told Ashley we would look to give him the opportunity and this is what has happened and I am delighted to welcome to the club"

Thomas will not, however, be able to assist City in their FA Trophy replay tomorrow night against Stourbridge at the New Lawn. With Marc Richards and Lyndon Tomkins out injured, and Jamie Price suspended The Tigers are short on defenders for that game, but Thomas was not registered before the original tie, so is ineligible, and will have to wait until Saturday to get involved.

But helping out City tomorrow night will be former favourite Jason Welsh, who is still registered with City, and has agreed to come back for one match following his recent release. Manager Tim Harris said “frankly it is a cheek to go back to Jason and ask him to help out, but it says a lot about the sort of man he is that he agreed. It also says a lot about the club and that he is prepared to come back and help us out.  I believe that he has been working hard to get himself fit since we released him, and he will do us a good job tomorrow”.  But Harris is keen to stress that budget constraints will not allow for him to re-sign Welsh long-term “we have had to make some hard choices in recent weeks, but we have to do what is right for the long term future of the club” says Harris.

REGISTER OF SUPPORTERS

Gloucester City is starting to compile a register of supporters. Commercial Manager Keith Butler already has a large register of Gloucestershire businesses, many of who receive regular updates on what is happening at the Club.

He now wants to extend it to a register of supporters who simply register the fact that they are Tigers fans.

"I simply want to get names, addresses and an email contact either at home or work, so I can keep in regular touch, send out newsletters and generally offer a better service. For example how many didn't know the kick off time in the Shortwood game - but we could have kept everybody in touch and sent an email reminder on the Friday beforehand."

"In fact the FA Cup is the prime example of why it is worth registering. I know we are out of the Cup this year but in future years we may well draw a big Club at home and everybody will want to jump on the bandwagon. There is nothing more galling than supporting a Club for years and then not being able to easilly get a ticket for that one big game. How will we know the four or five hundred who supported us during the hard times of 2007 so that we can look after them and their families first when it comes to distributing a limited number of tickets. If we have a register we can look back and see who was around in 2007/8 season."

"Quite frankly I don't care if a person is a once a year follower - the important thing is that they are interested enough to SAY they support the Tigers when it isn't fashionable to do so, claim it in the pub, use a Club pen at school, wear the shirt in the evening, take an interest in the results. We are building for the future but in any building it is the foundation that is the most important part"

"We aren't going to sell on the information - it is for our use only."

PRESS RELEASE

Gloucester City manager Tim Harris has started to adjust his squad in light of the recent run of disappointing results, and this has resulted in two players being released, and another placed on the transfer list.

“Scott Griffin is off around the world for 8 months in the next couple of months, so we have agreed to part company slightly earlier than expected to freshen the squad.  Scott understands the situation and we wish him well with his trip and for the future” says Harris.

Jason Welsh is also leaving with immediate effect.  Tim Harris says “I am really disappointed as I know that City have not seen the best of Jason. He has been troubled by one injury after another, and sometimes you have to make the tough decisions because time is never on your side in football. If he could get himself fit then he would be an excellent player at this level, and like Scott we wish him well for the future”

Harris has also placed long-serving midfielder Tom Webb on the transfer list, although he is keen to state that the door is not closed on him remaining at the club. “Tom is a good lad who been at the club for many years, rising through the youth ranks. His energy levels are without doubt his major asset, but I feel that now, after some 250 games, it might be the right time for him to seek a new challenge. We will see what develops from that, and then assess the situation.”

Harris went on “I have to respond to what has been a very disappointing period results wise.  I am currently working hard strengthen the squad and first and foremost I must make space to achieve this.  I still firmly believe this squad has talent but I need to look to install a winning mentality, and am talking to several players at this moment in time.
